Buchanan County and the Town of Grundy are home to abundant natural resources which through the years have allowed logging and a robust coal and natural gas industry to thrive. Economic diversification has been a continuing focus in recent years as the town re-invented itself through a flood control project carried out in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. That project saw the town literally move mountains to create a new flood-safe site on which the Town Center is now situated. An historic section of Grundy remains where the Buchanan County Courthouse is located.
