Quality of Life
Surrounded by majestic mountains on the banks of the Levisa River, you’ll find Grundy – the county seat of Buchanan County. Not only is it the perfect place to locate and grow your business, but you’ll also find the quality of life only a small town can offer. It’s a great place to raise a family and to make new friends.
More than 87 percent of Buchanan County is forested, which means for outdoor enthusiasts, there is plenty to do. Spearhead Trails’ Coal Canyon trail, which leads to ATV-friendly Grundy, was forged through unique partnerships between the Town of Grundy, the county, private landowners and local companies and offers 200-plus miles -- 7,900acres -- of ATV/UTV/OHV riding. Riders may access the trails through the University Plaza area. |
Other opportunities for outdoor recreation include spending an afternoon kayaking or fishing on the Levisa River, or visiting the nearby Breaks Interstate Park, aptly named “the Grand Canyon of the South.”
A project to reintroduce the elk population to the area was accomplished in 2012 and through the work of many, the herd has thrived, making Buchanan County the elk capital of Virginia.
The town features food and shopping in three main shopping areas:
• The Grundy Plaza
• University Plaza
• The Town Center, which also features Walmart set atop a two-story parking building.
Just across the Levisa River is the Grundy Community Center Cinema 3, a movie theater playing new releases.
Fuel is also found at the Town Center.
